Welcome

Books People Places (BPP) creates, co-directs and reviews content on the built environment, critically addressing its impact on cities and society.

Our approach is independent and collaborative. We share workflows and responsibilities, making final decisions alongside a team behind each production. This way of working has evolved as BPP has collaborated with exceptional comrades over the years.

Since 2014, BPP has initiated and organised collaborations with exceptional publishing projects, introducing architectural and critical writing to a wider audience through distribution. From 2022 onwards, BPP has started operating as a publisher.

We expect exceptional editorial work based on facts and well-considered speculation from disciplines such as architecture, urbanism, photography, art, literature, philosophy and fashion.

As a publisher and distributor, Books People Places has built relationships with bookshops across Europe and in various other countries worldwide.

One of our first collaborations was with Fulcrum a publishing project founded in 2011 at the AA in London that ‘explores architecture and the third millennium’. This collaboration turned into a project within the nGbK exhibition ‘Drucken Heften Laden’, in partnership with TU Berlin, as well as with the ‘Friends with Books’ art book fair in Berlin. ‘Drucken Heften Laden’ was an exhibition reflecting on the theory and practice of independent publishing.

During the Wohnungsfrage exhibition at HKW in 2015, we collaborated with the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture to present their research project and book, ‘The Art of Inequality: Architecture, Housing, and Real Estate – A Provisional Report’.

Books People Places has worked with various publishers to sell, distribute and present their work, including: AA Publications, Bedford Press, Archis, Berliner Hefte zu Geschichte und Gegenwart der Stadt, Birkhäuser, Columbia Books on Architecture and the City, DOM Publishers, dpr-barcelona, DUE, Half Letter Press, IoA die Angewandte, Jovis, Kyklada Press, O Books, Pulp is an Architecture Circular, Publication Studio, Real Review, Ruby Press, Spector Books, Sternberg Press, The New York Review of Architecture, The LA Review of Architecture, The Funambulist, UdK, Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König and ZK/U Press.
