About Books People Places

"Peter Schmidt in the BPP shop"

Books People Places (BPP) creates, reviews and distributes works on the built environment and its impact on society.

Our approach is independent and collaborative. We share workflows and responsibilities, making final decisions alongside the team behind each production. This way of working has evolved through years of collaboration with outstanding partners.

Since 2014, BPP has initiated and organised collaborations with committed publishing projects*, introducing architectural and critical writing to a wider audience through our bookshop in Berlin Schöneberg. Since 2022, BPP has been operating as a publisher.

Browse our online shop to view our publishing projects, and the publishers we feature alongside them.

We seek exceptional editorial work, grounded in facts and well-considered speculation, drawing from a variety of disciplines.

Alongside our own publishing, BPP works with authors, publishers and institutions on editorial and curatorial commissions. Editorial work ranges from developmental editing and copyediting to guest-editing entire volumes. Curatorial work assembles thematic selections of books and programmes for exhibitions, institutions and bookshops.

BPP is keen to meet you!

  • One of our first collaborations was with Fulcrum, a publishing project founded in 2011 at the AA in London that ‘explores architecture and the third millennium’. This collaboration grew into ‘Drucken Heften Laden’, an nGbK exhibition reflecting on the theory and practice of independent publishing, produced in partnership with TU Berlin and the ‘Friends with Books’ art book fair in Berlin.
During the Wohnungsfrage exhibition at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in 2015, we collaborated with the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture to present their research project and book, ‘The Art of Inequality: Architecture, Housing, and Real Estate – A Provisional Report’.
